Business Philosophy

Being a legal immigrant here in the States, I can still remember as an “alien” looking in, the US really is the “Land of Opportunity“.  It was one of the reasons that made my mom choose to immigrate here in the first place and later on bring me over as well.

I still believe it to this day.

It’s a shame too many of us take this for granted though – but that’s a whole other story :)

Here’s the point, being the land of opportunity, it is so simple for someone to just “start a business.”

You simply state, “I am going to start my own business” and voila!  You are now “self-employed.”

The problem with this is that what folks get too easily, they value too lightly.

Starting a business, because it’s so easy to do in principle here in the States, loses a lot of its meaning and value.  And therein lies the problem – we have a bunch of entrepreneur-wannabes and pretend-to-bes who are dabbling in their own “businesses” who aren’t taking it seriously or just don’t know  how.

In essence, they are treating their businesses like a hobby.

What are YOU Doing?

Did you start on this entrepreneurship journey because you are serious or are you just like so many others who are just dabbling in it?  Do you truly believe that this is your calling?  Are you committed to making it work or will you just give up at the first sign of difficulty and failure?

Are you willing to WORK at it and invest in it?

See, this isn’t YMCA, where you sign up for a summer class and you can show up or not, whenever you want – and at the end of the day, who gives a damn right?

Entrepreneurship, for it to give you the result you crave and desire, takes effort, time, energy, blood and sweat, investment, and then some more.  It is a journey that’s easy to start but challenging to finish.

Look around you, talk to your family, friends, coworkers and you’ll be shocked to learn how many of them share similar hopes and dreams that you have…

Gosh, I want to be my own boss so badly.

I wish I could work from home.

If only I could become financially independent…

But now look around and see who’s truly willing to work for what they desire?  Who’s ready to roll up their sleeves and make the necessary investment?  Who’s truly committed to their hopes and dreams?  Not many.

They just like to do a lot of talking and not much doing.

Are YOU One of Them?

Well, don’t be.

Don’t treat your business like another of your hobbies that you sort of half-ass and do for a few weeks, never fully engaging it and committing yourself to it.  Because if you do, I can already tell you that you are wasting your time because your “business” will NEVER pay off and NEVER afford you the dreams you desire.

DON’T treat it like a hobby.  DO treat it like the golden opportunity of your lifetime that's assuming...»

Be willing and ready to work some late nights and be ready to fail – and each time WHEN you do (and you will), be ready to pick yourself back up, dust yourself off, and keep going.

Until you are ready to commit to your business and to this entrepreneurship journey, you shouldn’t even start.

I’m just sayin’ :)

So be honest with yourself and ask yourself this, are you truly an entrepreneur or just a hobbyist?
